Set-up time reduction at Aearo Company

Public

The project team applied SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Dies) principles to achieve set-up time reduction on injection molding machines at Aearo Company in Southbridge, MA. The current process was first examined through videotapes and interviews. Then, a new process was designed by converting internal activities to external activities. Pilot tests suggested that set-up times could be reduced by 60%. Both short and long-term recommendations were provided to the company for further process improvements.
