Synthesis of prostaglandins and analogs

Public

Prostaglandins are an important class of biologically active compounds. The robust syntheses of different prostaglandins are of importance to the pharmaceutical industry. Synthesis should also be able to lead to various analogs. To aid in the development of a robust synthesis, the stereochemistry was controlled with the addition of an acetylenic ester to an aldehyde. The stereochemistry of the other chiral centers can be controlled from the alcohol. Several analogs were produced to demonstrate the validity of the synthesis.
