Synthesis, Spectroscopic, and Photophysical Properties of an Asymmetrically Substituted 2,5-Diarylidene Cyclopentanone Dye: (2E,5E)-2-(benzofuran-2-ylmethylene)-5-((E)-3-(4-(dimethylamino)phenyl)allyl
PublicThis work involves the Synthesis, Spectroscopic, and Photophysical Properties of (2E,5E)-2-(benzofuran-2-ylmethylene)-5-((E)-3-(4-(dimethylamino)phenyl)allylidene)cyclopentanone, an Asymmetrically Substituted 2,5-Diarylidene Cyclopentanone Dye. Emphasis was placed on measuring absorption and fluorescence spectra, as well as quantum yield calculations and fluorescence lifetimes. The measurements were carried out in a variety of solvents of varying polarities to measure the solvatochromic properties of the compound. The photophysical properties and spectral data show a correlation against the ET(30) empirical solvent polarity scale. B3LYP/6-31G(d) geometry optimization and TD-DFT spectral calculations were performed.
