Worm chemosensations -- the function of tax-4 in surface antigen switching in C. elegans

The C. elegans gene srf-6 controls timing of expression of surface antigens displayed during postembryonic development. Previous studies of interactions between srf-6 and genes controlling chemosensation suggest that an unknown component functions downstream of srf-6. The protein encoded by the gene tax-4 could possibly be such a component. To test this model, srf-6; tax-4 double mutants were constructed and compared phenotypically with srf-6 single mutants. Preliminary results suggest that tax-4 could be involved in this office antigen switching pathway.
