Blade-break cam system design

Gillette has experienced problems with noise, vibration, and wear in their current blade cutting cam. Our redesign eliminates the expensive 3D track cam and replaces it with a less expensive and easier to manufacture 2D track cam. The cutter mechanism stays the same, but is now actuated by a four bar slider-crank linkage that is driven by the new 2D cam. A spring-loaded connecting rod that elongates when the blade break impact occurs provides controlled compliance and limits blade impact forces. The new design allows a precise and repeatable cutting force to be applied to the blade strips, while reducing the noise, vibration and wear in the system.
