Synthesis of peptides for device applications

Public

The synthesis of two chromophore-containing amino acids, N-Fmoc-L- pyrenylalanine and N-Fmoc-L- fluorenylalanine, residues that will be incorporated into a cyclic peptide, were undertaken. Model linear and cyclic peptides, into which these residues will be incorporated, were synthesized by a solid phase method. The cyclic peptides ability to self-assemble in solution through hydrogen bonding enables the formation of peptide nanotubes. Once formed, the long range energy or charge transfer of chromophore-containing cyclic peptides will be studied for possible device applications.
