White light disinfection
PublicBioterrorism is a prevalent topic in today's current events especially where Anthrax is concerned. This MQP used the bacterium B. subtilis as a surrogate for B. anthracis to understand the effects of white light on bacterial spores. Initial parameters of death kinetics for B. subtilis were determined using varying intensities and exposure times of white light. This project determined that white light, at intensities close to that of sunlight, has a major effect on killing spores of B. subtilis.
