The Akan people of Dwenase Ghana take great pride in their traditions and symbols thereof. However, as any community grows, its customs evolve. The durbar grounds is a community-wide space for all cultural events, most importantly funerals. The Dwenase durbar grounds were time-worn and inadequately sized to accommodate all event attendees. With the community, our group redesigned and redeveloped the grounds. We utilized the co-design framework to not only increase the size and better the look of the grounds, but also make a structure that signified the evolving Akan culture.
