The Scintillation Light Yield per MeV of Deposited Energy in CF4 Using a Photosensitive Detector
PublicScintillators emit scintillation light due to the deposited energy of ionizing particles. The scintillation light yield in carbon tetrafluoride (CF4) was measured using alpha particles. As energy was deposited and measured by a surface barrier detector, scintillation light was detected using a cesium iodide coated gas electron multiplier stack which produced photoelectrons. The signal was amplified and measured using a charge sensitive preamplifier. The scintillation light yield in CF4 is 314 +/- 15 photons per MeV over a solid angle of 4 Pi.
