CNC milling of microfluidic mixers

Public

The purpose of this project was to develop a methodology for creating milled microfluidic mixers that were identified through research. Many industries could use microfluidic mixers for biological sampling. Hospitals could monitor patients' body functionalities such as kidney performance, blood properties, and disease identification receiving results in a matter of hours rather than sending the samples to [the] lab only to wait for weeks at a time. This microfluidic mixing device is commonly referred to as lab-on-a-chip. Due to limitations in milling, the most practical mixers were determined to be lamination, chaotic, hydrodynamic focusing designs, and a control design for comparative purposes. Designs were drafted and later created with the use of CNC milling machines and no other construction methods were utilized. Each design is suitable for testing mixing effectiveness or needed mixing applications once the steps are correctly followed.
