Reducing supply and shipment costs for fulfillment centers at Staples, Inc

Public

This Major Qualifying Project focused on process improvement and cost reduction measures for Staples Fulfillment Centers. The capability of the nesting application upgrade to the warehouse management system (WMS), alternative box sizes, the use of shipping bags instead of boxes, consolidating orders within cartons, and the feasibility of distributing supplies on existing line hauls were analyzed to determine the impact on cartons per shipments and supply costs. Project results recommend optimal box sizes, bagging process, and expediting the WMS upgrade.
