GPS based hazard detection system for the Providence and Worcester Rail Road III

Public

This project was the third of its kind, done with the Providence and Worcester Railroad, to develop an early detection system for misaligned rail switches. While the previous projects had developed a functional prototype system, it lacked the range needed to provide a locomotive the distance to stop before reaching the switch. This project involved extending the range of this system by implementing repeaters, improving antenna selection, and upgrading the software to accommodate the hardware changes.
