Preserving the canal walls of Venice using power from a modified microbial fuel cell

The purpose of this project was to conduct a proof of concept analysis for using a modified microbial fuel cell to power an accretion process that might allow for canal repair in Venice. Parameters were tested to determine the setup that allowed the most matter to accrete. It was determined that larger surface area of electrodes for both processes resulted in more current and accretion. At a constant current of 0.03 milliamps, on a 12.75in2 cathode, 0.06 grams accreted over a 24-hour period. A flow system proved more effective at matter and energy production and should be tested for applications in Venice.
