PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerUrban development is changing how markets function as public spaces and causing culture and tradition to disappear in Sai Ying Pun on Hong Kong Island. This report characterized Sai Ying Pun’s markets as public spaces throughout urban development. Analysis was accomplished through archival research, observations, and interviews regarding the markets. We identified how urban development has affected both shop owners and customers. Suggestions were proposed for how to maintain markets throughout urban development while increasing their appeal as public spaces.
