Phytoestrogens found in plants have been reported to be therapeutically effective in treating prostate cancer, with reduced side effects compared to conventional hormone treatment. The structural similarities phytoestrogens share with estradiol 17-â suggest that they will bind to the ER-â region of LNCaP cells and induce downstream suppression much like estrogen does. This paper seeks to examine the effects of different types of phytoestrogen extracts on prostate cancer cells compared to conventional hormones used to treat prostate cancer.
