Process for manufacturing modified cellulose membranes

Public

Millipore Corporation developed two surface modifications for their cellulose membranes to enhance their retention and chemical stability. The two reactions were investigated on two membrane variants and the results showed that while the variant B membrane could be adequately modified, the A variant membranes fell short of the required target. The process was scaled up to a labscale column system in which a six foot roll could be modified, and the results demonstrated that the roll could be successfully modified if uniform flow distribution was achieved. Finally, suggestions were made to move the process to the production scale based on the findings of the labscale experiments.
