Design and demolition

Public

The explosive demolition of a structure was investigated using toppling, implosion, and progressive collapse techniques. Several alternative column spacings were designed for a model eight-story office building, and included all critical structural members as well as a materials cost estimate. The three explosive demolition techniques were then applied to the model building to establish not only a demolition design plan but also to determine the performance characteristics of the various explosive demolition techniques.
