Microwave initiated arylation reactions

Public

Huperzine A and B, alkaloids isolated from the club moss Huperzia serrata, are employed in traditional Chinese medicine to treat senile dementia and other ailments. Previous attempts to synthesize Huperzine analogs relying on a heteroatom directed photoarylation reaction encountered difficulties when a pyridine ring system was incorporated into the photoprecursor. This research seeks to develop an alternative to photochemical initiation of the heteroatom directed arylation employing microwave radiation.
