The goal of this year's Pratt and Whitney/WPI Learning Factory project was to experimentally investigate the effects of shadowing as deposition rates. Using Pratt and Whitney's coater, the effects of shadowing have been examined using a tab array fixture in conjunction with a shadow bar enabled further study of the effects of shadowing during the EB-PVD coating process. Experimental simulations were performed using a light box to provide an additional view of shadowing effects.
