Foundations for the exploration of trace metals in flue gas

Public

The speciation of trace elements such as mercury, arsenic, and selenium in coal combustion flue gas must be known for the development of efficient capture technology. An experimental set-up was designed to simulate the conditions of the combustion process and identify the specification of these trace elements. Proper safety features and controls were incorporated. Additionally, the potential energy surface for the decomposition reaction of HgO was modeled for the future determination of its activation energy and corresponding rate constant.
