Leviton absolute optical encoder development

Public

The Leviton Absolute Optical Encoder is a precise position-sensing device for use in both linear and rotary applications. Previous versions of the encoder used a charge coupled device image sensor to collect position data. We developed a new system design that uses a more advanced National Semiconductor LM9637 image sensor. The new sensor allows for a less complex and less costly system design. The inherent flexibility of the LM9637 also means that the Leviton Encoder will be able to use a wider variety of scale patterns to fulfill the needs of more unique applications. Future development work will be required to transform our system design into a final, packaged, version.
