Bile acid-induced apoptosis in a MDCK cell line transfected with the hepatocyte sinusoidal bile acid transporter

Public

The objective of this project is to determine if the canine kidney cell line (MDCK) transfected with the gene for the hepatocyte sinusoidal transporter (Ntcp) would be a useful model for rat hepatocytes in studying bile acid-induced apoptosis. In order to verify this cell line as a beneficial model, several experiments involving bile acids and cyclic adenine monophosphate were performed. A comparison of these results with those performed on hepatocytes indicate that MDCKs are valuable in studying bile acid-induced apoptosis.
